A Treatise On Terrorism in Pakistan

 A Treatise On Terrorism

The recent chain of suicide bombings has raised many questions. Why terrorism has only grappled Pakistan? Why are security forces not able to stop these attacks? What is the government doing to curb terrorism? Why are only Pashto and Pashto areas suffering?

Terrorism is not unknown to Pakistan, especially KPK, this province has suffered from terrorism for decades. The Government and security forces have failed to stop these inhuman and brutal attacks showing their failure and commitment.

The recent string of terrorist attacks is directly related to the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan. They have a history of providing shelter to terrace groups previously they provided shelter to Al-Qaida and now they are providing shelter to TTP.

Applauding the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan and not focusing on its repercussions for Pakistan -as some leaders like Imran Khan and Khawaja Asif did- is now watching the demise of people. This highlights the lack of seriousness and inability of our government.

Syed Muzammil in his latest video revealed the terrorist activities in Pakistan after the fall of Kabul have skyrocketed with up to a 138% increase. The fact is that the Taliban are the product of the Pakistani establishment made during the Cold War era.

In his myopic view, Imran Khan decided to give shelter to TTP and discuss peace with them. Is this the way to deal with a terrorist organisation? Our policies and our softness towards the Taliban are due to our religious affiliations and our interests. We see the Taliban as our allies in Afghanistan, which has polluted our country with terrorism, this is the failure of the Pakistani Government policy and its short-sightedness.

The reason that why only Pashtun is suffering is also the result of state policies dating back to the war in Kashmir when the state fumed tribal people to wage Jihad in Kashmir, Zia has exploited that policy under the influence of the United States of America, the then government has created mujahideen to fight the Soviet Union. The present influence of the Taliban in tribal areas can be traced back to the events of 1980 and ahead.

Education, lack of attention and the seed of hatred propagated by the state due to its malign policies are now stinging the state back. PTM leader Manzoor has said that the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is semi-permeable where the establishment decides who to allow and whom to stop.

Way Forward:

The state has to wake up from the deep Slumber of idealism and accept realism. It needs to convey a strong message to the Afghan government to stop sheltering terrorists. If not then we have to permanently close our borders.

Critical thinking, not conformity, philosophy not religion, can liberate people from this quagmire of blood and hate.

Only defeat terrorism once we get out of the ideology of religious imposition; only liberal democracy can save our people.

To conclude,  Harari says "In a world deluged by irrelevant information, clarity is power." We as an individual have to change ourselves and guide others to the path of knowledge, harmony and critical thinking.
